Made By Ma
June Anderson, known lovingly as Ma to her three grandchildren, is the creative force behind Made by Ma. Based in Palmerston, June has a lifelong love of wool and the craft of knitting. Her journey began as a child, learning to knit while watching her father spin yarn — and it was her father who built her very first spinning wheel.
An avid supporter of all things wool, June has spent years knitting for her family, often using her dad’s homespun yarn. Retirement gave her the chance to rediscover spinning and explore new ways to work with natural fibres. Today, she combines traditional spinning techniques with a passion for upcycling, transforming woollen blankets into unique garments and accessories.
Her range includes:
Children’s jackets, vests, and coats
Reversible wool bags
Hot water bottle covers
Handmade felt glasses cases
Over the years, June has enjoyed attending and selling a wide range of different crafts at a wide variety of markets. She values making personal contact and loves sharing her story with customers who stop by her stall.
Each piece is handcrafted and one of a kind — made with care, sustainability, and creativity in mind.
You’ll find Made by Ma at the Waikouaiti Artisan Market on Sunday 6 July, where you can explore her work in person and learn more about her wool-filled journey.
